The Digitalisation and IT Systems department at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) had plenty to show, but no place of its own to show it. In 2023 I designed a bilingual website and built it with WordPress, in the university’s corporate design and with only a handful of plugins. We aligned in short, fixed video-call rounds. After around two and a half months the site went live, with five content areas, a blog, an integrated ideas portal and a directory of contact persons.

The Digitalisation and IT Systems department at TU Munich wanted to bring its work to where people would find it: a clear web presence of its own. TU Munich is one of Europe’s largest technical universities, and the site had to live up to that brand without feeling heavy.
What they needed was a site in two languages, in the university’s corporate design, and fast enough that no one is left waiting for it to load. On top of that came a tight timeframe.
Idea & approach
Instead of long feedback loops, we agreed on short, regular rounds: fixed 15-minute video-call slots with the team. It sounds like next to nothing, but it was worth its weight in gold, feedback and ideas went straight into the design rather than getting lost in meeting notes. That's how the site grew, piece by piece, together and without any friction.
What came out of it
A bilingual website in the TUM colours: five content areas, a blog on all things digitalisation, an integrated ideas portal, and a directory that helps you find the right people to talk to. Content updates itself automatically, and the tech gets by with just a handful of plugins, which keeps the site fast and sustainable. From first sketch to launch in two and a half months.
